Being a creative entrepreneur is HARD. Every weekday, I wake up and go to my office – which for me, like for many artist business-owners, is just down the hall from my bedroom. In that room just a few doors down from my bedroom, I am expected to create incredible masterpieces that will move my listeners and shape the audience’s experience … and that my clients pay me for. These creative projects require my time and my focus and my energy, and I love it. I love what I do. I love getting into the flow state in my work. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of being fully absorbed in the creative process, and truth be told, that’s why I do what I do. I know you know what I’m talking about. That’s why you’re a creative entrepreneur. That’s why you’re an artist.

But once that creative work is done, my work isn’t finished. I can’t clock out and leave my office and go back to my personal life, because I have a BUSINESS to run. Like many creative entrepreneurs, I am a solopreneur, meaning I have no employees or partners in my business. I mean, my husband Arturo is so supportive and amazing that he might as well be my partner, but in truth, I am alone in my creative work, both the “create” side of things, and the “business” side of things. Every single task in my business ultimately rests on my shoulders. I am responsible for all of the marketing in my business. I am responsible for maintaining the financial books. I do the billing and the invoicing, and I do the project management. Oh yeah, and I do the creative work too. I am both a creative AND an entrepreneur.

And this is a hard place to be. Where do you go from here? How do you grow from here? How does a creative, an artist, build a business that scales? How do you go from starving to thriving?

Hi there. Welcome to the Starving Artist No More Podcast, where we will endeavor to answer those questions.
